Legislators have called for a probe in the wake of perceived exploitation of internet consumers by providers of such services in the country.
Pushing the motion, legislator Busayo Oluwole Oke said the trend had continued to deprive consumers of the right quality of services.
It was imposing untold hardships on many businesses, he said.
If not checked, the Nigerian consumers will continue to be at the receiving end,” Oke said.
The House of Representatives has subsequently called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to commence an industry-wide audit of the quality of service the internet service providers were providing.
The lawmakers also directed the commission to set up a framework through which internet service consumers would be compensated for poor services.
The Nigerian Communications Commission is empowered to establish minimum quality of service standards in service delivery for the telecommunications industry.
These standards will ensure that consumers continue to have access to high quality telecommunications service by setting basic minimum quality levels for all operators.
