The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has denied that former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme endorsed the defection of the party’s governorship candidate in the state,Tony Nwoye, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Punch.
The party described Nwoye’s claim as name-dropping.
Nwoye had on Tuesday during a visit to the National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun said he had received the blessings of the leaders of the PDP in Anambra State, including Ekwueme to join APC.
Ken Emeakayi, Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of the PDP, said Ekwueme is a pillar in the PDP and would not work against the interest of the party by encouraging any group to leave the party.
Emeakayi stated that Nwoye and those that defected to the APC were never members of the PDP, saying they were expelled from the party in August for anti-party activities.
Their expulsion was made public. So, they can’t come now to claim to be members of our party in November.”
