Controversy: All Ministers’ Offices And Cars To Be Monitored Via Bugs

An investigation by Breaking Times, suggests that officials of the newly set-up cabinet will have their cars and offices placed under surveillance. The report by Breaking Times indicates that the current ministers will have their cars and houses bugged. The report indicates that all the official cars and offices that would be given to presidential aides and new ministers have been bugged with high-tech listening devices. This move the report claims is in pursuance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption mantra. According to their findings, the president ordered that all Official cars given to the newly sworn in ministers should have a ‘black box’ device fitted to track drivers’ movements and also to listen to conversations. Breaking Times reports that this same directive was given in the case of Presidential Aides. There are serious concerns regarding the order’s breach of privacy and cost of implementation. However, the presidency reportedly ordered that the Mercedez Benz availed all presidential aides and the Toyota SUV’s that would be allocated to the Ministers must be fitted with monitoring device. According to the investigative report, the devices to be used are not only capable of tracking movements at all times, but also has the potentials to pick up conversations. The “black box” is capable of immobilizing the car if instructed using mobile phones. More details from the investigation by Breaking Times can be read here. CREDIT: NAIJ.COM
